A low pressure system moves eastwards over the North Island today, many places in the north will see rain or showers at some point during the day with thunderstorms possible this morning about Taranaki then afternoon for Waikato, Bay Of Plenty and potentially the Auckland area. In the South Island some rain or showers clears this morning Canterbury northwards, sunny areas increase elsewhere.

Auckland & Northland
North to northwesterly winds with the odd shower, winds change west to southwest around midday with further showers. About Auckland there is a chance one or two of these showers may be heavy and thundery. Showers ease late afternoon then clear later in the evening.

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
The odd shower with northerly winds, a change to southwesterlies in the afternoon brings showers which may be heavy and thundery about the Waikato and Bay Of Plenty. Showers ease late afternoon then clear in the evening.
Highs: 14-17

Eastern North Island
High cloud at first with light northerlies, winds change southerly in the afternoon bringing showers which clear evening.
High: 17

Western North Island
Heavy thundery downpours about Taranaki ease during the afternoon as northeasterlies change southerly, showers then clear by evening. Further south expect northerlies to change southerly in the morning bringing the odd shower which clears in the evening also.
Highs: 15-16

Wellington
Early rain eases to showers which clear late afternoon or evening. Cool southerly winds die out overnight.
High: 13

Nelson
Early rain clears then mostly sunny with southerly breezes, dying out at night.
Highs: 15-16

Marlborough
Early rain clears north of the Wairau Valley then sunny areas develop, about southern Marlborough and near the coast rain clears early afternoon with late clear spells. Southerly winds die out at night.
Highs: 14-15

Canterbury
Cloudy at first with some drizzle, areas of rain north of about Banks Peninsula. Winds from the south. Precipitation clearing about South and Mid Canterbury mid morning and further north around midday. Sunny areas then develop.
Highs: 14-15

West Coast
Any early rain clears to a mostly sunny day, south to southwesterly breezes.
High: 17

Southland & Otago
Morning cloud clears to a mostly sunny day, some high cloud from afternoon however about Southland and Central Otago then reaching coastal Otago in the evening. Light north to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 15-16
