 A southwesterly airflow eases over the country today as an anticyclone pushes in from the Tasman Sea. The weather around the country is looking to be fairly settled with some cloud, cloud most persistent about Canterbury. A few early showers may clear about the southwestern corner of the country.

Upper North Island

Mostly sunny with some cloud, expect south to southwest breezes. Sea breezes develop about the Bay Of Plenty and Gisborne in the afternoon. Slight chance of a late afternoon isolated showers about eastern Bay Of Plenty any of which clear at night.
HIGHS: 24-26

Lower North Island

Mostly sunny with some cloud, expect south to southwest breezes. East to northeast breezes develop along the east coast later in the afternoon.
HIGHS: 22-24

Upper South Island

Mostly sunny with some cloud at times on the West Coast, Nelson and in Marlborough. Southwesterly breezes in the west and easterlies in the east. About Canterbury and the Kaikoura coastline conditions will be fairly cloudy to start today however a few sunny breaks will develop in the afternoon, northeasterlies pick up a bit in the afternoon near the coast.
HIGHS: 19-23

Lower South Island

Mostly sunny with some cloud and southwest breezes. A few morning showers may clear about Southland and in the west. Northeasterlies pick up along the east coast later in the afternoon.
HIGHS: 18-21, mid 20’s for some inland areas
