An anticyclone sits out west of New Zealand today while a low pressure system lies out to the east of the North Island. In between is a southwesterly airflow which will bring showers to the southern half and West Coast of the South Island, the North Island will remain largely dry with showers in the east clearing by afternoon. Southwesterlies will be quite strong about Auckland in the afternoon.

Breezy westerlies with a mix of sunny areas and some cloud in the west, winds becoming strong in the afternoon. Sunny periods in Wellington and the Wairarapa with light winds, increasing west to northwest winds after midday then later in the evening a change to cool southerlies with some cloud. Showers about Hawkes Bay clear by midday with a few sunny breaks developing in the afternoon, southerly breezes die out by late afternoon.
