Monday’s national forecast – Rain eases

A south to southwesterly airflow lies over the country today with a low centered to the east of New Zealand.

North Island

A mix of sun and cloud, showers north of about Auckland clear in the morning then the odd one remaining for western Northland for the rest of the day, winds from the southwest. Rain for the lower North Island eases to showers this morning, showers thinning out and mostly clearing this evening but a few may remain about the coast. Rain about Wairarapa pushes into Hawkes Bay this morning, a few showers may reach Gisborne this afternoon, showers clear in the east this evening.

South Island

Dry along the West Coast with sun. Nelson and Marlborough have a mix of sun and cloud, morning showers clear Marlborough. Cloudy in the east with showers in the south, rain for Canterbury, heavy rain about the Kaikoura area. All precipitation easing during today, retreating to coastal areas gradually especially in the south, all clearing up this evening. Snow in the ranges above 900 or 1000m. South to southwesterly winds ease during the day. Overnight rain moves into Fiordland as a front closes in.
