A ridge of high pressure lies over New Zealand today.

North Island

Mostly sunny in the west this morning, some cloud this afternoon. Isolated showers may develop about Waikato this afternoon then easing later on. Light winds then afternoon sea breezes. Morning cloud in the east breaks to a few sunny spells, Hawkes Bay and Gisborne sees the odd shower from afternoon, some rain for Gisborne / East Cape overnight.

South Island

Morning cloud in the east and about Nelson / Marlborough then afternoon sun breaks through. Elsewhere has a mix of sun and cloud, Fiordland may see the odd light shower. Winds come in from the east or northeast in the east, perhaps a little more from the north along the West Coast.
