A ridge of high pressure lives over New Zealand today bringing mainly settled weather, perhaps a little unstable for northeastern parts of the North Island this afternoon.
North Island
Areas of morning cloud or fog breaking away to sun, skies a little cloudier Hawkes Bay around to Bay Of Plenty with a few showers although afternoon sun should break through. Inland Hawkes Bay / East Cape and up through to Waikato sees afternoon showers, some may be heavy with thunder. Winds are light for most, afternoon sea breezes. Warm this afternoon especially in the west with high’s in the mid to late twenties from inland Taranaki up through to Northland.
South Island
Mostly sunny, any morning fog patches inland break away. Northeasterlies in the east, northerlies in the west and for Nelson. A warm afternoon especially inland and for Southland / Central Otago with high’s in the mid to late twenties.
