An anticyclone covers New Zealand today bringing settled weather.

North Island

Anywhere from southern Northland through to the Central North Island expect mostly sunny weather with some high cloud, there may be a few early mist or fog patches especially for inland areas then breaking. Winds will be light. A few showers about North Cape slink southwards to cover Northland later in the evening / overnight. For the southwestern corner of the North Island (Taranaki to Kapiti) expect cloudy areas and occasional sun, cloud breaks away more in the evening, winds are light. The east coast has a mainly sunny day with some high cloud.

South Island

Morning cloud breaks to sunny spells for the West Coast of the South Island, Fiordland (especially southern Fiordland) has slightly cloudier skies with a drizzle patch at times. The rest of the South Island has mostly sunny weather, there may be some high cloud about. Light winds for most with east to northeast breezes in the afternoon for Canterbury.

Temperatures

Temperatures ranging from 14 to 19 degrees across the North Island, the coolest highs will be about the Central Plateau. The warmest afternoon temperatures will be for Hawkes Bay, Gisborne, Auckland and Northland. High’s ranging from 13 to 16 degrees from Southland right up to Nelson along the east coast of the South Island (also inland Buller), 10 to 13 degree highs for the West Coast.
