A southwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today, moving around a high centred to the west of the country in the Tasman Sea.

North Island

Mostly cloudy for the upper North Island, expect the odd shower at times especially in the west with southwesterly breezes. The Bay Of Plenty may stay mainly dry all day. The east coast sees some sun, cloud and the odd light shower moves into Wairarapa during the morning then further north during the afternoon and evening with south to southwesterly winds.

South Island

Cloudy periods for North Westland, the odd shower also, sunnier and drier further south. Nelson has a mainly sunny day. Canterbury and Marlborough start off with some sun then cloud builds during the morning with south to southwesterly winds, staying mainly dry. Central Otago and inland South Canterbury stay mainly sunny all day, Southland and coastal Otago have a mostly cloudy day with occasional showers and snow flurries to 300 or possibly 200m. Showers ease in the evening becoming restricted to a few coastal fringe areas.

Perhaps getting into the mid teens about Northland and Auckland, the coldest highs will be about Southland and Otago ranging from 6 to 8 degrees.
