Monday’s national forecast

> From the WeatherWatch archives

A ridge brings mainly settled weather to the South Island today while a decaying front slowly moves northwards over the North Island during the day.

North Island

Sunny spells and the odd shower for the upper North Island, winds are light tending to the southerly quarter from afternoon. Rain or showers along the east coast for much of the day (Gisborne through to Wairarapa) with cool southerly winds. Morning showers about the lower western North Island clear then sunny areas develop.

South Island

Mostly sunny for the upper South Island, a few morning showers about Banks Peninsula and Marlborough (mainly the sounds) clear then mainly dry. A mix of sun and cloud about the rest of Canterbury. Sunny for South Westland and Fiordland. Southland and Otago have a mostly cloudy day with showers at times, drying out from afternoon with sun breaking through for inland areas.

A fairly cool day ahead for most of the country, temperatures just getting into the mid teens for Auckland and Northland.
