A ridge of high pressure starts to sneak in over the South Island today while a weak but broad area of low pressure hangs over the North Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Cloudy areas and a few showers, showers may become heavy in the afternoon about western Auckland through to western Waikato. Easterly quarter winds for most give way to the south in the evening. Northland has westerlies that tend southwest in the evening.
Highs: 20-22

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Cloudy areas with occasional showers, especially afternoon. South to southeasterly winds.
Highs: 16-20

Eastern North Island
Cloudy areas with occasional showers, some sun may break through at times. Easterly winds.
Highs: 17-21

Wellington
Showers then rain from afternoon as southerlies strengthen.
High: 15

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly cloudy with the chance of a shower, rain moves into Marlborough around midday. Southeasterly winds.
Highs: 17-20

Canterbury
Rain with cool south to southwesterly winds, South Canterbury sees only the odd patchy shower. In the evening rain mostly eases and clears.
Highs: 10-13

West Coast
Mostly sunny weather however Greymouth northwards expect rain with heavy falls possible then easing late afternoon or evening. Southeasterly winds.
Highs: 15-18

Southland & Otago
Morning showers clear then sunny areas increase, cool southwesterly winds ease.
Highs: 10-13
