Upper North Island

Mostly cloudy skies with west to northwesterly winds, some sun at times more so about Northland. A few showers move into the Waikato late morning then push further north during the afternoon, showers ease and clear later in the day. Showers may be fairly brief for some. Northland stays mainly dry.

Lower North Island

Early rain for the lower North Island in the west eases to showers then clearing as westerly winds change southerly, afternoon sunny spells. High cloud in the morning out east, southerlies freshen before midday bringing lower level cloud and the odd light patchy shower.

Upper South Island

Cool southerlies for the east of the South Island, mostly cloudy skies with the odd drizzle patch, many dry areas also especially afternoon onwards. Winds tend to the east or northeast in the evening. Morning cloud with the risk of a light shower along the West Coast, a few afternoon sunny spells for a time before cloud thickens again in the evening with some drizzle returning then rain overnight.

Lower South Island

Chance of an early shower, cloud breaks to a few sunny spells in the afternoon about Southland and Central Otago. South to southeasterly winds tend east to northeast in the afternoon then freshening.
