A ridge lies over the upper North Island today while the rest of the country is under a northwest airflow. A front snaking in from this low pushes on to the lower South Island (Otago / Southland / Fiordland )

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mainly sunny with some cloud at times, cloud builds a little about inland Waikato and inland Bay Of Plenty from afternoon. Chance of an isolated shower late afternoon or evening where this cloud builds.

Eastern North Island
Mainly sunny with some high cloud, east to northeast winds. Chance of an isolated shower in the ranges behind Hawkes Bay and Gisborne from late afternoon.
Highs: 26-27
 
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Sunny areas with light west to northwest winds. Cloud builds inland from afternoon, chance of an isolated shower late afternoon / evening.
Highs: 25-27
 
Wellington
Mainly cloudy skies with northwesterly winds, breezy at times mainly this afternoon.

Marlborough & Nelson
High cloud with north to northwesterly winds, especially afternoon.

Canterbury
Plenty of high cloud with north to northeast winds, the odd spot of rain possible.

West Coast
Cloudy with areas of rain, south of about Greymouth with heavy falls possible. Mainly cloudy skies, northerly winds.

A mostly cloudy day with areas of rain about Southland, also western parts of Central Otago. The rest of Otago sees morning spots of rain easing, picking up again in the evening. Light winds for most, tending southerly about Southland this morning.
