A southwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today, getting a little unstable about Canterbury this afternoon where heavy showers and thunderstorms are possible mainly inland.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Cloudy areas and a few showers about, mostly clearing in the evening. Westerly winds change southwest this afternoon.
Highs: 19-23

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Periods of cloud and some sun with breezy increasing west to northwest winds, the odd shower possible at times otherwise mainly dry.
Highs: 16-17

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny weather with a few clouds at times, more so from afternoon. In the afternoon and evening a few showers may crop up about northern parts of Hawkes Bay and Gisborne then clearing later on. Winds breezy from the west or southwest.
Highs: 20-23

Wellington

Sunny areas with breezy Nor’West winds, an evening southerly change brings a few showers.
High: 18

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly sunny with west to southwesterly winds, some high cloud. In the evening there is a chance of some isolated showers moving in about the Marlborough coast some of which could be heavy then clearing later.
Highs: 20-22

Canterbury

Sunny areas with southerly winds from this morning, isolated showers develop this afternoon especially inland some of which may be heavy with thunderstorms and hail then moving towards the coast late afternoon or evening.
Highs: 16-17

West Coast

Cloudy areas with the odd shower throughout the day, breezy west to southwest winds.
Highs: 14-15

Southland & Otago

Showers with gusty west to southwesterly winds, a chance of small hail at times too. Parts of Otago may not see shower activity till around midday.
Highs: 11-14
