A northwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today, many regions will experience some rain or showers at some point today. Canterbury and Marlborough are likely to be the driest apart from any early showers this morning.

Northland
Periods of cloud and a few sunny spells, north to northwesterly winds. Chance of a shower or two about the place mainly this afternoon.
Highs: 27-28

Auckland

Periods of cloud and a few sunny spells, northwesterly winds. Chance of a
brief shower or two about the place otherwise dry.
Highs: 27-28

Bay Of Plenty

Morning rain eases to showers which mostly clear this afternoon although a
few remain, sunny spells then break through. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 26-27

Waikato & Central North Island

Morning rain possibly heavy eases to showers, northwesterly winds. Showers
could be briefly heavy at times this afternoon then easing in the evening.
Highs: 22-26

Eastern North Island

Spells of rain easing to showers around midday, showers could still be
heavy at times this afternoon. Northwesterly winds, showers clear later this
evening.
Highs: 27-28

Taranaki

Rain with heavy falls at times, thunderstorms possible. Rain clears later
this evening / around midnight, northwesterly winds.
Highs: 23-24

Western North Island

Spells of rain with heavy falls possible, thunderstorms possible also. Rain
then clears this evening. Northwesterly winds pick up later today.
High: 24

Wellington

Spells of rain clearing late afternoon / evening, northwesterly winds
becoming strong later this afternoon.
High: 22

Nelson

Occasional showers, sunny areas at times too with long dry spells.
Northerly winds pick up this afternoon.

Marlborough

Any early showers clearing then expect some high cloud which decreases late
afternoon or evening. Northwesterly winds becoming strong after midday.

Canterbury

Chance of an early shower about South / Mid Canterbury then mostly sunny
although high cloud spreads north from South Canterbury this morning into North
Canterbury this afternoon, northwesterly winds. A few isolated showers possible
about parts of South Canterbury this afternoon then clearing in the evening.
Highs: 28-30

West Coast

Cloudy with showers, turning to rain this afternoon with heavy falls and
thunderstorms. Northerly winds pick up during the day, winds change southwest
overnight with rain easing to showers.
Highs: 20-21

Coastal Otago

High cloud with light east to northeast winds, mid to late afternoon
isolated showers develop becoming heavy in the evening with thunderstorms. Winds
change southwest in the evening.
High: 25

Central Otago
Plenty of high
cloud with northwesterly winds, a few spots of rain this afternoon. This evening
winds change southwest with showers possibly heavy, thunderstorms may develop
about southern parts of the region on the southwest change.

Southland

Mostly cloudy with light northerlies, the odd spot of rain about. Winds
change southwest mid afternoon bringing heavy showers and thunderstorms.
High: 23
