A front clears off to the northeast of the North Island this afternoon while another front moves onto the lower South Island this afternoon then pushing north during the rest of the day.

Auckland & Northland
Morning rain which could be briefly heavy then clearing midday as northerlies change westerly, becoming mostly sunny PM.
High: 18-19

Bay Of Plenty

Rain develops this morning possibly heavy for a time then clearing
afternoon as breezy northerlies change westerly, sunny areas then develop.
Highs: 18-19

Central North Island & Waikato

Morning rain possibly heavy then clearing around midday as northerlies
change breezy westerly, sunny spells develop.
Highs: 17-18

Eastern North Island

A few spells of morning rain which clear by midday then becoming mostly
sunny in the afternoon as breezy northwesterlies tend more westerly.
Highs: 20-22

Western North Island

Morning rain clears then expect mostly sunny weather with brisk to strong
WNW winds which ease overnight.
Highs: 17-18

Wellington

Any early rain clears then expect mostly sunny weather with strong to gale
northwesterly winds which ease overnight.
High: 16

Nelson

Sunny areas and some cloud with gusty northwesterly winds which ease
overnight and tend southwest.
Highs: 17-18

Marlborough

Early high cloud clears then mostly sunny with gusty northwesterly winds,
strong at times. Overnight winds change southwest.
High: 20

Canterbury

Mostly sunny with gusty northwesterlies strong at times from midday (a risk
of gales inland). In the evening southwesterlies freshen bringing some cloud and
a few showers, showers may be heavy with a risk of thunderstorms and hail Banks
Peninsula southwards along the coast.

West Coast

Showers, some heavy with a risk of hail then easing during the afternoon /
evening as brisk northwesterlies change southwest and ease.
High: 14

Coastal Otago

Sunny areas this morning with light winds, around midday a fresh southwest
change develops bringing heavy showers, hail and possible thunderstorms which
then clear evening. Some snow to 600m for a brief time in the evening before
clearing.
High: 16

Central Otago

Sunny areas with northwesterly winds, chance of a shower west of the
Southern Lakes area. Mid afternoon a SW change develops bringing heavy showers
and possible thunderstorms which clear in the evening. Snow to 800m lowers to
500m by evening before clearing.
Highs: 12-13

Southland

Sunny areas and thickening cloud this morning, northwestely winds. A midday
southwest change brings heavy showers and possible thunderstorms which clear
evening. A chance of hail at times and snow flurries to 800m lowering to 500m
before easing.
High: 12
