A northerly airflow increases over the South Island today ahead of a front which moves north in the afternoon and evening, mainly bringing rain to the West Coast. The North Island has a westerly airflow with periods of cloud out west, sunny along the east coast with light winds.

Periods of cloud with westerly winds, chance of a shower at times mainly afternoon.

Sunny spells with westerlies, chance of a shower at times midday onwards
otherwise dry.

Bay Of Plenty

Mostly sunny with westerly winds.

Central North Island & Waikato

Periods of cloud and sunny breaks at times with westerly winds, there may
be a shower or two about at times from afternoon otherwise mainly dry.

Eastern North Island

Sunny with light winds, northwesterlies freshen about the Wairarapa this
evening.
Highs: 16-18

Taranaki

Cloudy periods with westerlies tending northwest by midday, the odd shower
possible at times from midday then overnight rain.
High: 15

Western North Island

Cloudy spells with northwesterly winds, freshening a little this afternoon.
Chance of a shower or two this afternoon.
High: 16

Wellington

Periods of cloud with light winds this morning, northwesterlies freshen
from afternoon becoming strong tonight. A few spots of rain overnight.
High: 14

Nelson

Mostly sunny with light winds, northerlies freshen from this afternoon with
cloud gradually developing. Later in the evening some rain moves in then eases
overnight with a westerly change.
High: 16

Marlborough

Mostly sunny with freshening northerly winds. Cloud thickens late in the
evening then around midnight a few spells of rain may spread from the
west.
High: 18

Canterbury

Mostly sunny with freshening north to northeasterly winds, winds more
northeasterly right on the coast and tending more northerly inland. Cloud
thickens late afternoon then in the evening a few spells of rain may start to
spread from the west into the foothills, around midnight a few spits may reach
the coast.

West Coast

Cloudy with rain about Fiordland spreading north during the day, heavy
falls possible. Northwesterlies change round to the southwest in the evening
with rain easing to showers.
High: 13

Coastal Otago

Sunny areas and northeasterly winds, in the evening winds ease then a few
showers develop later which then clear overnight.
Highs: 13

Central Otago

Sunny areas with northwesterly winds, showers at times west of the Southern
Lakes area. Late afternoon or evening winds ease perhaps tending southwest then
showers move in which clear at night.
Highs: 11-13

Southland

Northerlies and increasing cloud, a few showers develop this afternoon with
northerlies easing. Showers may become heavy for a time then easing in the
evening.
Highs: 13-14
