A ridge pushes onto New Zealand today from a high in the Tasman Sea slowly ushering in weather with a more settled tone. The east coast of the North Island is fairly cloudy however with morning rain clearing Gisborne, the odd shower hangs about.

Auckland & Northland
Brisk southwesterlies with sunny spells and high cloud, high cloud decreases late in the day with winds easing in the evening.
High: 22

Central North Island, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Mainly fine after any morning cloud clears, southwesterlies tend a little
more south to southeast after midday. About the Waikato expect southwesterlies
for much of the day. There will also be some high cloud which slowly decreases
during the day.
Highs: 21-24

Eastern North Island

Early morning rain about Gisborne eases to the odd shower, the odd shower
elsewhere mostly clearing by midday although there is the low risk of one or two
hanging around in the afternoon. Cool southerlies with mostly cloudy
skies.
Highs: 19-21

Western North Island

Chance of an early shower then becoming mostly sunny this morning. South to
southeasterly breezes, brisk about Taranaki.
Highs: 20-21

Wellington

Sunny spells with southerly winds.
High: 17

Nelson

Mostly sunny with light winds this morning then afternoon
northerlies.
High: 19

Marlborough

Mostly sunny with light winds this morning, afternoon easterlies. Breezy
southeasterlies about the outer Sounds.
Highs: 18-19

Canterbury

Sunny spells gradually increase from this morning, there may be an early
clearing shower about Banks Peninsula. Southwesterlies at first gradually
swinging around to the east in the afternoon.
Highs: 19-20

West Coast

Mostly sunny with light winds tending southwest in the afternoon.
High: 18

Coastal Otago

Sunny spells increase from this morning, mostly sunny by afternoon.
Southwesterlies die out in the evening then tend easterly.
High: 17

Central Otago

Becoming sunny this morning, south to southwest breezes die out in the
evening.
Highs: 19-22

Southland

Chance of an early shower, expect sunny spells otherwise with westerly
breezes.
Highs: 16-17
