Here’s what is making the weather headlines today….
CONDITIONS EASE
Heavy rain for the eastern South Island would have started to ease late yesterday and eases further today, the last hold out of any heavy rain today will be the Kaikoura area this morning but this will pull back.
The lower North Island gets rain for a time this morning also but this area has not been inundated with rain like the eastern South Island has.
This evening most remaining showers for the eastern South Island will clear away.
COLD BLAST ON THE WAY – TUESDAY
A cold front pushes over the lower South Island midday Tuesday reaching central New Zealand around midnight then the upper North Island early on Wednesday.
This change brings heavy rain or showers in the west and east as it moves through, thunderstorms and hail are possible too.
Expect snow as low as 300m in the far south later in the day, around 600 to 500m around the middle of the South Island. Overnight snow may get down to 700 / 600m about the Central Plateau.
More to come in our daily video presented by Phil Duncan around midday.
HIGH PRESSURE END OF THE WEEK
High pressure looks to move in at the end of the week, from Friday for the South Island then further north in the weekend. Lets hope it holds true as some settled weather would be nice!
