A cold southwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand tonight with a deepening depression to the east of the South Island. Winds will ramp up overnight about eastern coastal areas with heavy rain setting in too, especially about Banks Peninsula.

Auckland & Northland
Cloudy spells with the odd brief shower, brisk to strong southwesterly winds ease a little overnight.
Tonight’s Lows: 12-15

Central North Island, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Periods of cloud with southwesterly winds, the odd shower at times mainly in the west. Clear with a few clouds about the Bay Of Plenty, dry conditions.
Tonight’s Lows: 3-11

Eastern North Island
Showers, some heavy with hail about the Wairarapa
clearing overnight. Remaining showers about Hawkes Bay and Gisborne clear this
evening with increasing clear spells overnight, southwesterly winds.

Tonight’s Lows: 7-9

Western North Island

Strong westerlies with showers, some heavy with a risk of hail then mostly
clearing later this evening south of Wanganui. Showers continue along the south
Taranaki coast overnight with gusty southwesterlies.
Tonight’s Lows: 5-10

Wellington

Showers with heavy falls, hail and possible thunderstorms clearing this
evening. Cold southerly winds tend westerly overnight.
Tonight’s Low: 9

Nelson

Occasional showers with a risk of hail then gradually clearing this
evening, southwesterly winds ease overnight with clear skies developing.
Tonight’s Lows: 6-7

Marlborough

Showers, some heavy with a risk of thunderstorms and hail then clearing
this evening. Southwesterly winds.
Tonight’s Lows: 5-6

Canterbury

Occasional showers, some heavy with hail. Brisk cold southwesterly winds.
Showers clear from inland areas this evening with the odd one continuing near
the coast especially about Banks Peninsula. Rain setting in around dawn tomorrow
near the coast, becoming heavy on the Peninsula with southwesterlies rising to
gale force.

West Coast

Mainly sunny skies about South Westland, sunny spells and isolated showers
further north. Some showers heavy with thunderstorms. Showers ease this evening
and clear later. Brisk southwesterlies ease.

Coastal Otago

Occasional showers with a risk of hail, areas of hail clear away overnight
with rain setting in towards dawn tomorrow. Brisk southwesterlies becoming
strong tomorrow morning gusting to gale force at times especially about the
coast.
Tonight’s Lows: 8-9

Central Otago

Showers ease this evening potentially clearing for some, the odd one may
continue on during the night in southern parts of the region. Cold
southerlies.
Tonight’s Lows: 6

Southland

Showers with a risk of hail, easing later this evening with only the odd
shower overnight. Snow flurries to 700m. Brisk cold southwesterlies.
Tonight’s Low: 8
