A front works it’s way north over the South Island tonight delivering heavy rain in the west, high cloud and strong northwesterlies preced the front in the east. For the North Island conditions are calmer for the most part although Wellington will see strong to gale northerly winds.
Northland
Mainly clear skies overnight with light winds, some cloud in the west.

Auckland
Clear spells and some cloud, westerly winds.
Tonight’s Low: 10
Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
Mainly clear skies overnight about the Bay Of Plenty, some cloud for the Waikato and Central North Island but clear areas there too. Westerly winds.
Tonight’s Low: 7-10
Eastern North Island
Mainly clear with some high cloud, west to northwest winds becoming strong overnight about Wairarapa.
Tonight’s Lows: 9-11
Western North Island
Areas of cloud increase overnight with the odd drizzle patch developing about Kapiti, brisk west to northwest winds.
Tonight’s Low: 10-12
Wellington
Areas of cloud thicken this evening, strong to gale northerly winds.
Tonight’s Low: 13
Nelson
Mainly sunny, becoming cloudy overnight with northwesterly winds.
Tonight’s Lows: 11-12
Marlborough
Sunny with high cloud thickening this evening. Gusty northwesterly winds, strong overnight.
Tonight’s Lows: 11-12
Canterbury
High cloud thickens this evening, strong gusty northwesterly winds. A few spots of rain possible overnight.

West Coast
Rain, heavy and possibly thundery about South Westland and Fiordland moving north overnight. Northerly winds increase.

Coastal Otago
Rain eases to the odd shower later this evening as light winds change southwest.
Tonight’s Lows: 7-8
Central Otago
Rain, possibly heavy easing to showers around midnight, northwesterlies tend westerly.
Tonight’s Low: 7
Southland
Rain, possibly heavy eases later this evening then clears around midnight. Westerly winds with clear spells and some cloud overnight.
Tonight’s Lows: 6-7
