The start to the working week is looking mainly settled across the country. A ridge slowly weakens over the North Island while a front moves onto the lower half of the South Island from afternoon.
For the upper North Island (Northland through to the Waikato and Bay Of Plenty), expect mostly sunny weather with light northwesterly winds. Some cloud thickens late afternoon in the west and there is the risk of a light evening shower or two for all these regions bar Bay Of Plenty. Temperatures all in the high teens with Northland perhaps sneaking into the low 20’s.
The remainder of the North Island is a tale of two halves, cloud builds from mid to late morning about Taranaki
through to Wellington, the odd light shower is possible for northern Taranaki
from evening then most areas see showers developing by dawn the next
morning.
The east coast has the best weather with sunny conditions, some
high cloud moves in later in the day. Winds will be light and temperatures reach
into the early 20’s.
For the West Coast of the South Island expect cloudy skies, rain about Fiordland spreads north during the day with northwesterly winds. Rain will be heaviest about Fiordland. Nelson sees sunny spells and
increasing cloud with northwesterly winds, showers move in overnight.
Temperatures ranging from 14 to 16 degrees.
Marlborough and Canterbury can expect mostly sunny weather and some developing high cloud, winds
will mostly be light with northwesterlies inland. A few showers may move into
South Canterbury later in the evening. Temperatures will get into the high
teens.
Finally for Southland and Otago conditions are a little bit more
damp, showers develop for both regions in the morning then turning to rain
around midday with light westerlies tending southwest in the afternoon. Wet
conditions ease up overnight. Temperatures understandably looking to be a bit
cooler, 13 to 14 degrees will be the likely highs.
