Melbourne Cup weather looks showery, cooler & windier

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Weather for the Melbourne Cup at Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne on Tuesday will be dominated by a storm south of Tasmania.

The deep storm will be well south of Australia but the low pressure zone will extend into Victoria with instability, bringing passing showers, possibly a thunderstorm and windy westerlies at times.

It will be cooler too, with a high of around 15C (it will be 21C on Sunday and 19C on Monday) and will likely feel colder in the wind. Hopefully some good dry spells in the mix for those who are attending, but forecasters won’t know for sure until early next week.

WeatherWatch.co.nz will have more details in our upcoming video updates on our YouTube Weather Channel (Fri, Mon, Tue).
