After a chilly start, it hasn’t improved much in the City of Sails – currently sitting at just over 11 degrees, though with a fresh 44km/h southwesterly, the “feels like” temperature is considerably lower.
Wind gusts have been strong through the region too, with more than 70km/h recorded at times through the morning in central Auckland, while just over 3mm of rain has fallen since early this morning.
Some heavy rain in the early hours of the morning eased off just after sunrise, though the chilly southwesterlies are ruffling some feathers and lowering the temperature in Wellington to just 10 degrees – though with wind chill it won’t feel even that high, more like 5 degrees.
After some very cold conditions overnight, the day has started equally dismally – with the city’s thermometer sitting at just 2.2C, along with brisk southwesterlies chilling things even further. It’s warmed up a little but in the wind it still feels like 3 degrees.
While there hasn’t been any rain so far today, there of course has been significant snowfall in parts of the Canterbury region.
The coldest of cour main centres, Dunedin at 10am is currently sitting at just 2 degrees – with a “feels like” temperature of -1C. It warmed up a little more by 11am but the ‘feels like’ temp is currently minus 1.
This of course is part of the same system which brought snowfall across parts of the city last night – and steady showers through much of the morning hasn’t helped things either.
Fair to say it’s good advice to rug up warm if you’re venturing out at all this morning!
