Lifeguards urge safety in the sun this summer

> From the WeatherWatch archives

It’s really easy to find the nearest beach to you with lifeguards.

You just need to hop online and check out www.findabeach.co.nz

Surf Lifesaving New Zealand is urging people to go to patrolled beaches and swim between the flags.

It says last holidays many of the rescues took place outside of patrol hours and outside of flagged areas.

Lifesaving manager Allan Mundy says they are also urging people to look out for each other.

“We really do advocate ‘Don’t Swim Alone’ and if you’re a bit unsure, just stay within your depth,” he says.

“If you’ve got young ones or you’re not a confident swimmer, you can still enjoy your time, but know that lifeguards are looking over you.”
