Southwesterlies for much of the country today, a fast moving front moves over the South Island overnight then pushing over the North Island on Saturday. Sunday sees a strong northwesterly airflow for much of New Zealand.
Friday
Blue – Morning showers for the western upper North Island may be heavy with hail then easing by midday.
A quick moving front brings some heavy rain to the South Island’s West Coast overnight.
Purple – West to southwest winds are gusty about the western North Island, easing a little in the evening.
Saturday
Blue – Later in the evening / overnight conditions ramp up with heavy rain and possible thunderstorms moving onto the South Island’s West Coast.
Purple – Strong northwesterly winds developing for many, especially about the inner South Island and through Cook / Foveaux Straits from evening.
Sunday
Heavy rain about northwestern parts of the South Island eases from afternoon, areas of rain with a chance of heavy falls moving onto the lower western North Island by midday then easing by evening.
Northwesterlies are gusty / strong about central New Zealand then easing from afternoon.
