A westerly airflow covers New Zealand today as a large anticyclone is centred west of the North Island in the Tasman Sea. Meanwhile a front moves onto the lower South Island this morning. A northwesterly airflow lies over the South Island on Tuesday, strengthening during Wednesday then a front pushes onto the South Island fom the west.
Monday
Blue – Heavy rain about South Westland eases later in the day, showers about Southland may be heavy in the afternoon.
Purple – Brisk to strong northwesterly winds about the east of the South Island and through Cook Strait.
Yellow – Temperatures lifting in to the mid to late 20 mark.
Tuesday
Blue – Rain becoming heavy about Fiordland in the evening, pushing northwards overnight.
Purple – Brisk to strong northwesterly winds once again about the east of the South Island and through Cook Strait.
Yellow – Temperatures lifting in to the mid to late 20 mark.
Wednesday
Blue – Areas of rain heavy at times during the day for the West Coast, torrential falls possible in the evening.
Purple – Brisk northwesterly winds for much of the South Island and through Cook Stait. Winds gusting to gale for most.
Yellow – Temperatures lifting in to the mid to late 20 mark.
