Westerlies today ahead of a front which moves onto the lower South Island late morning reaching the lower North Island overnight, this front will weaken a fair amount during the day as it moves northwards. A southwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand on Saturday and Sunday.
Friday
Blue – Late afternoon / evening showers in Canterbury, some may become heavy with thunderstorms and hail then clearing later in the evening.
Purple – Westerlies become brisk about the lower North Island in the west from afternoon. Brisk to strong southwesterlies about the southeastern coastline of the South Island.
Yellow – Afternoon high’s in the mid 20’s for eastern parts of both islands. Perhaps even high 20’s about the eastern North Island.
Saturday
Blue – Showers activity develops about Canterbury in the evening, this should move on fairly promptly however may be heavy for a time.
Yellow – Temperatures reaching into the mid 20’s during the afternoon about the eastern North Island, just inland away from the coast as an afternoon sea breeze may keep conditions a little cooler nearer the ocean.
Sunday
Purple – Gusty westerlies about the lower North Island in the west from afternoon. Brisk southwesterlies about the southeastern coastline of the South Island.
Yellow – Afternoon temperatures in the mid 20’s for the eastern North Island and parts of the Bay Of Plenty.
