Anticyclonic conditions for most of the South Island today with a light southerly airflow present, south to southeasterly winds for the North Island. Weak anticyclonic conditions for much of the country on Friday. Northeasterlies develop over the North Island on Saturday with areas of rain moving out of the Tasman Sea into the west, light easterlies cover the South Island.
Thursday
Blue – Rain with possible heavy falls about Hawkes Bay and Gisborne eases to the odd shower this afternoon.
While not a major issue a small area of convergence this afternoon could bring isolated showers from the Waikato up to Northland mainly in the west, small risk of a heavy shower if any showers form.
Friday
Blue – Chance of a few isolated showers late afternoon / evening as depicted on the map below about the upper North Island, low risk of a brief heavy fall or two.
Saturday
Blue – From evening areas of rain move onto the western North Island, a few heavy falls are possible.
Late afternoon / evening isolated showers are possible about Central Otago, a chance one or two may be heavy.
