A low sits in the Tasman Sea on Tuesday while a large high is centred just to the northeast of New Zealand. In between lies a front which sits over northwestern parts of the South Island during the day.
Mostly cloudy for the upper North Island, occasional areas of sun possible. Chance of a light shower or two also otherwise mainly dry. Light northerly winds.
For the lower North Island in the west expect mostly cloudy conditions with the odd shower possible, more so about Taranaki. Long dry spells too. West to northwesterly winds. Mainly sunny along the east coast with light northwesterly winds.
Mostly cloudy about Wellington with breezy north to northwesterly winds.
High cloud thickens in the morning about the upper South Island, a few spots of rain about Nelson spread into Marlborough after midday. Tasman sees areas of rain with heavy falls at times. Light northwesterly winds. Mainly sunny with a touch of high cloud about Canterbury, light winds.
Morning showers clear the West Coast then cloud breaks to sunny spells in the afternoon, some rain continues about Buller during the day however, heavy falls possible. Northeasterly winds.
Mostly sunny after any early cloud clears away about Southland and Otago, light winds.
Blue – Heavy form of precipitation.
Purple – Strong winds.
Yellow – Temperatures around the mid 20 degree mark or over.
