A ridge for the upper North Island on Thursday, a low slowly moves away to the east from the lower North Island meanwhile a gentle northwesterly airflow gradually develops over the south.
For much of the North Island in the west, morning showers clear then sunny spells increase in the afternoon. West to southwesterly winds. Northland and a fair amount of Auckland, especially in the north sees a mix of sun and cloud with mainly dry conditions.
Rain about the lower North Island in the west may be heavy in the morning then clearing away in the afternoon. The east coast sees a mix of sun and cloud, the odd shower possible at times also then clearing away by evening.
Morning showers clear Nelson / Marlborough then sunny areas increase in the afternoon. A mix of sun and cloud for much of the West Coast, light west to southwesterly winds. Fiordland however is cloudy with patchy rain or drizzle, especially later in the day.
Morning cloud about Canterbury through to Southland breaks to sunny spells or mostly sunny weather, some high cloud increases about the lower South Island from afternoon.
Blue – Heavy form of precipitation.
Purple – Strong winds.
Yellow – Temperatures around the mid 20 degree mark or over.
