A northwesterly airflow lies over the South Island on Friday, lighter northerlies for the North Island.
Sunny spells for the upper North Island, chance of an isolated shower afternoon / evening, perhaps even a heavy fall or thunderstorm. Light winds tending northwest about Northland.
A mix of sun and cloud for the lower western North Island with light northwesterly winds. There may be a light shower or two about Kapiti / Taranaki. A sunny day along the east coast with light winds. Sunny spells for Wellington, chance of a shower around midday otherwise mainly dry. Breezy north to northwesterly winds.
Sunny areas and some high cloud about Marlborough, northwesterly winds. Nelson sees cloud increase from morning, chance of a shower from late afternoon, winds from the north. Sunny areas and thickening high cloud about Canterbury, a few spots of rain possible in the evening mainly inland. North to northeasterly winds.
Cloudy with showers along the West Coast, chance of a heavy fall or thunderstorm. Northeasterly winds. Any early morning spots of rain clear Southland / Otago then mostly sunny, cloud thickens from evening with light easterlies then there may be a late light patchy shower.
Blue – Heavy form of precipitation or cold temperatures, typically below 1 to 2 degrees celsius.
White – Snow
Purple – Strong winds.
Yellow – Temperatures around the mid 20 degree mark or over.
