Southwesterlies ease over the country today, continuing on Thursday moving around a large anticyclone in the Tasman Sea.

Some cloud for the western North Island today, there may be a few showers this morning in the southwest. Cloud about Wairarapa (chance of a light morning shower also) moves northwards into Hawkes Bay and Gisborne in the evening. Showers about the upper South Island clear away during this morning, perhaps lingering till evening in the west. Mostly sunny for the lower South Island, cloud and a few showers move into Fiordland during the afternoon and Southland late evening.

Some cloud for the western North Island on Thursday, especially in the morning. Mostly sunny conditions out east. Showers for the West Coast of the South Island ease during the day, becoming mainly dry in the evening. A few showers about Southland spread into Otago in the morning, clearing evening. Canterbury is mostly sunny then some cloud develops from afternoon with southerlies, chance of a late shower or drizzle patch. Marlborough and Nelson have a mainly sunny day, coastal Marlborough sees some evening cloud and late drizzle.
