Anticyclonic for most of New Zealand today. A front approaches the lower South Island from the west moving in overnight. This front moves northwards over the South Island on Thursday meanwhile conditions are still mainly settled further north.

Mostly sunny for the North Island today, some morning cloud in the southwest. The South Island has a mostly sunny day also, some morning cloud breaks on the West Coast. Also some morning low cloud for coastal Canterbury. Fiordland sees showers from afternoon then overnight rain.

Mostly sunny for the North Island on Thursday, some morning cloud in the southwest. Heavy rain pushes northwards along the West Coast of the South Island during the day, clearing at night. Rain moves into Southland during the morning with a southwest change, moving up to Banks Peninsula by evening although easing to showers. Sunny for Nelson and Marlborough.
