A front stalls over the upper South Island on Wednesday, expect a north to northwesterly airflow further north.

Sunny areas and thickening high cloud on Wednesday for most of the North Island, some mid level cloud thickens in the southwest.

Areas of rain or showers in the west South Island, patchy rain develops about Nelson in the afternoon. Patchy rain in the east starts to clear in the afternoon and some sun may break through. Any morning rain clears Southland / Otago with sunny spells developing, in the afternoon isolated showers move in (more so inland) with a chance of heavy falls / thunder then easing later in the evening.
