A large anticyclone centred in the south Tasman Sea directs a southwesterly airflow over New Zealand on Tuesday. This anticyclone covers New Zealand on Wednesday bringing mainly settled weather, a weakening front moves onto the lower South Island overnight.

Some cloud for western parts of the North Island today, some coastal areas may see cloud linger for much of the day. Mostly sunny elsewhere. The South Island has a mostly sunny day, a few areas of morning cloud for some then breaking away. Cloud may be a little more persistent during the day about coastal Southland and the Catlins.

Mostly sunny for the North Island on Wednesday, some cloud about coastal areas especially in the morning. A risk of morning fog or mist about some inland spots also. The South Island has sunny areas and some high cloud, low to mid level cloud about some coastal areas especially morning then breaking away. Light winds for most then afternoon sea breezes.
