A low moves over the North Island on Tuesday as an easterly quarter airflow lies over the South Island.

Rain or showers for the North Island and upper South Island on Tuesday, heavy in some areas. Southeasterly winds are strong about central New Zealand, especially though Cook Strait where gales are likely.

The best looking weather is about Southland and South Westland.
