Mainly anticyclonic for New Zealand today, a weakening front moves northwards over the South Island during the day. Mainly anticyclonic again on Friday, the remnants of Thursday’s front brings plenty of cloud to the South Island.

Mostly sunny with high cloud for the North Island today, some mid level cloud in the morning breaks away. May even be a morning mist or fog patch first thing for some inland spots then breaking away. Dry with a mix of sun and cloud for the upper South Island. Rain about Fiordland eases to showers then clearing in the evening. A few showers about Southland and Otago, mostly this morning but a chance one or two may linger into the afternoon. Overnight drizzle for most of Canterbury.

Mostly sunny for the North Island on Friday, expect some high cloud. Cloudy areas in the east. Cloudy areas for the West Coast of the South Island, the odd light shower or drizzle patch possible also. The east coast has the chance of a morning drizzle patch then some sun may break through from afternoon otherwise staying fairly cloudy. Southland and Central Otago does see sun breaking through from afternoon.
