A warm northerly airflow lies over the country today, this airflow continues on Friday with a front in the west weakening in the morning.

Sunny areas and some high cloud for most of the North Island today with warm temperatures. Areas of rain or showers for the West Coast of the South Island, mainly dry elsewhere with some high cloud. A few isolated showers may develop in the afternoon about the ranges of North Otago then clearing in the evening.

Sunny spells and the odd isolated shower possible for the upper North Island on Friday. A few showers in the southwest (Taranaki through to Kapiti) then drying out in the afternoon with sunny areas increasing. Mainly sunny in the east, some high cloud. Morning heavy rain for the West Coast of the South Island then easing to showers. Sunny areas and some high cloud along the east coast. Southland sees any early rain clear then sunny areas develop, overnight further rain moves in.
