A west to northwest airlfow lies over New Zealand today, a cold front hits the lower South Island this morning reaching the upper South Island in the evening. This front moves over the North Island on Friday however it will weaken.

A few showers Auckland southwards for the west of the North Island today, mostly sunny along the east coast with warm temperatures in the afternoon. Rain with a chance of heavy falls pushes northwards along the West Coast of the South Island during the day. Dry in the east to start, rain moves through Southland and Otago this morning with a southwest change, a few showers may blow through South Canterbury mid afternoon then North Canterbury late afternoon.

A few showers for much of the western North Island on Friday, a few showers develop about Wairarapa in the morning then a few may reach Hawkes Bay in the afternoon otherwise staying mainly dry. Gisborne has a mainly sunny and dry day. Cloudy periods for the West Coast of the South Island, risk of a shower at times especially for Fiordland. A fairly dry day in the east but there could be a clearing shower about Marlborough in the morning. Coastal Southland sees the odd shower at times in a westerly airflow.
