A front combines with a low to bring potentially torrential rain to northeastern parts of the North Island today, conditions more tame further south. A cold southerly airflow covers the country on Friday.
Rain for much of the North Island today, clearing away from the southwest from afternoon. Rain could be torrential about some northeastern regions. Hawkes Bay and Gisborne sees heavy rain pick up from afternoon then starting to ease overnight. Early heavy rain about the southwestern North Island then easing becoming mainly dry by afternoon. Becoming mostly sunny in the morning about the West Coast of the South Island, showers about Southland and Otago gradually spread into Canterbury in the evening.
Rain or showers for the eastern North Island on Friday, out west conditions are a bit drier however there may be a period of morning showers then drying out with sunny spells from afternoon. Sunny for the South Islands West Coast, fairly dry in the east however the odd shower moves into Mid and North Canterbury during the day.
