Mainly anticyclonic today however a disturbance to the west brings some wet weather for central areas. The flow tends northeast on Friday with this disturbance slinking southwards bringing rain with a chance of heavy falls to the South Islands West Coast.

Areas of rain or showers for Central New Zealand today, quite cloudy in the east for most however Hawkes Bay and Gisborne sees some sun. The West Coast south of Hokitika and Auckland / Northland in the north has sunny areas and some high cloud.

Mainly dry for most of the North Island on Friday, chance of a shower in the afternoon / evening about Wairarapa otherwise mainly dry. May also be a light morning shower or two for Bay Of Plenty. The South Island is mostly cloudy with areas of rain or showers, heavy at times in the west. Rain eases from afternoon in the east. There may be some fog to start the day for Southland.
