A northwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand on Saturday, continuing on Sunday with a disturbance moving over the North Island later in the day.
The odd shower for the western North Island on Saturday, especially afternoon. Mostly sunny with increasing high cloud in the east. Heavy rain for the West Coast of the South Island, especially morning with possible thunderstorms then gradually easing. High cloud in the east, rain develops about Southland in the morning then moving into Otago during the afternoon.
Mostly sunny for Northland and Auckland on Sunday, cloud and the odd shower possible from evening. The odd shower for the western North Island Waikato southwards, rain may become heavy at times for Taranaki afternoon onwards. High cloud in the east, scattered rain spreads into Wairarapa at times. Rain for the West Coast of the South Island may be heavy at times, more so for South Westland. Sunny areas and some high cloud in the east, a few isolated showers develop about Southland and eastern Otago in the afternoon.
