A weakening front moves northwards over the upper South Island and then the North Island on Saturday bringing a few patchy showers, a ridge for most of the country on Sunday however a front moves onto the lower South Island in the afternoon.

A few showers move onto the lower North Island in the afternoon on Saturday with a south to southwest change, drier further north although there may be some cloud at times for Northland and Auckland in a southwest airflow. For the South Island, showers in the northwest clear in the afternoon then sunny spells increase. Morning cloud about South Westland then mostly sunny. Cloudier skies in the east especially about Canterbury with light showers or drizzle.

The North Island is mainly dry on Sunday although there may be a few showers in the southwest from afternoon. Mainly dry for the South Island in the north and east, a few early showers possible about Marlborough. In the afternoon a cold southwest change moves onto the lower South Island bringing rain.
