A slight pause in the weather today especially out east due to a ridge of high pressure however more inclement weather is lined up for the South Island from evening then the western North Island overnight as a front pushes in from the Tasman Sea. This front passes over the North Island on Tuesday moving in a west to east fashion clearing off to the east by late afternoon.

Sun and cloud for the western North Island today, the odd shower also. High cloud starts to increase from this afternoon then rain moves in overnight with heavy falls. Mainly dry in the east with high cloud. Showers for the West Coast of the South Island, turning to rain this evening and becoming heavy. Mainly sunny for the South Island’s East Coast with high cloud from afternoon.

Morning rain for the western North Island may be heavy on Tuesday then easing to showers and sunny spells from afternoon, dry at first in the east then some rain passes over from the west in the afternoon, clearing evening. Early heavy rain for the South Island’s West Coast, Nelson and Marlborough then easing. Cloudy areas for elsewhere in the South Island with the odd shower about especially for Southland and Fiordland.
