A westerly airflow lies over New Zealand today, a front within this flow pushes into the southwestern corner of the South Island by midday. A northwesterly airflow continues on Saturday.

The odd shower for the western North Island today (especially morning) then drying out in the afternoon with sunny spells increasing. Sunny weather along the east coast. The odd shower for the West Coast of the South Island, heavy rain pushes into Fiordland by midday then slowly pushes northwards reaching North Westland in the evening. Mainly sunny weather in the east, high cloud increases about Southland and Otago, late evening spots of rain for Southland.

The odd shower for the western North Island on Saturday, especially afternoon. Mostly sunny with increasing high cloud in the east. Heavy rain for the West Coast of the South Island, especially morning with possible thunderstorms then gradually easing. High cloud in the east, rain develops about Southland in the morning then moving into Otago during the afternoon.
