A large low pressure system affects New Zealands weather today then southwesterlies cover the country on Saturday.

Rain or showers for most of the North Island today, possibly heavy in some areas. Morning showers clear the West Coast of the South Island then mostly sunny, a dry morning out east then cloud builds in the afternoon with showers possible mainly inland. Showers may spread to coastal areas in the evening.

Showers in the west and east of the North Island on Saturday, dry though about the Bay Of Plenty with mainly sunny weather. The South Island sees any morning cloud or showers in the east clear then mostly sunny, a mostly sunny start in the west then cloud builds from afternoon. A light shower or two moves into Fiordland around midday then spreads northwards along the coast in the evening.
