A westerly airflow lies over the North Island on Friday meanwhile a weak low covers the south Island.

Sunny spells for Northland and Auckland on Friday, there may be a shower at times mainly in the west. A mix of sun and cloud for the Waikato and Bay Of Plenty. A dry morning for the lower western North Island then showers develop in the afternoon, easing overnight. Mainly dry in the morning for the east coast also, showers from afternoon possibly heavy with thunderstorms (mainly about the ranges) then easing at night.

A fair majority of the South Island starts off dry then showers develop in the afternoon, especially for inland areas. Coastal parts could stay dry but showers may spread in during the evening. Showery conditions ease overnight.
