A front moving in from the north will bring strong pre frontal northeasterlies to Northland this afternoon then spreading southwards into Auckland late afternoon / evening. Winds will be strongest in the east, likely gusting to gale force then easing overnight.
Coastal Bay Of Plenty should also see gusty northeasterlies developing this evening then peaking overnight, not as bad as further north however winds may still gust to gale at times. Taranaki (especially near the coast) sees strong northeasterlies from evening, winds may gust to gale then easing overnight.
Heavy rain moves into Northland mid to late afternoon, spreading further south this evening. The heaviest falls will naturally be in the east.
