Humidity rises over New Zealand

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Humidity is in the 80% range across many regions this afternoon as moist nor’easters spread across the country.

In Hamilton humidity is close to 90%, sitting on 86% this hour while Auckland is hovering in the low 80% range.

Drizzly showers have been affecting numerous areas as well as some heavy showers over Northland.

Wellington has humidity in the mid 70% range and Christchurch is close to 80%.

WeatherWatch.co.nz says a few heavy afternoon showers are possible this afternoon, most likely around the Tararua, Hawkes Bay and Central Plateau ranges, according to rain maps on WeatherWatch.co.nz’s brand new maps page.

New Zealand’s only free and live Lightning Tracker is detecting a few thunderstorms near the Far North.  Isolated thunderstorms may pop up over Northland this afternoon, as well as near the ranges over inland parts of the lower North Island.  WeatherWatch.co.nz rates the chances as “low to moderate”.

Meanwhile South Islanders have mostly settled weather and a lot less cloud than their northern neighbours, but the nor’easter is keeping temperatures in the mid-teens in Christchurch.
