Hot & dry – Weather risks for Monday

> From the WeatherWatch archives

With the North Island under a ridge of high pressure and the South Island very much in the clutches of a northwesterly airflow, sunny and settled weather will prevail across the country today – though in some parts, that’s a risk in itself.

With much of Canterbury already tinder dry, hot temperatures forecast for inland eastern parts of the South Island will not do anyone any favours.
Highs in the low to mid 30s are picked for much of the region – and that, along with hot norwesters will send the fire danger soaring.
